How To Prevent The Vandalism Of Your Business

Shuretech • Jul 20, 2022

Vandalism can mean anything from spray-painted words on your building to smashed windows and further damage. No one wants to be the victim of violence or vandalism, but how can you prevent it? We have a few suggestions that could help.

Light the Front of the Building Properly

Darkness breeds crime, since most criminals who vandalise, are simply not interested in being caught. They enjoy the thrill of damaging property, but will generally stick to darker areas to do this. You can make your business very unappealing by keeping bright lights out front. You should invest in actual lights, not just motion detector lighting because they can do things from outside the range of the motion detector easily.

Hide Valuables

If someone looks through the front window of your business, do they see anything worth stealing? When you close up for the night, it’s a good idea to hide anything that is appealing to burglars. A simpler way to do this is to simply invest in a shutter system that will cover the windows completely at the end of the day. This provides extra protection and a further deterrent for the vandals.

Set Up Visible Cameras

A camera or two that is easily seen and shows the street in front of the building will also keep most vandals away. As mentioned before, they have no interest in being caught and if it’s obvious they will be captured on video, most will simply turn and find easier buildings. Even if this does not keep them away, you will have proof of what they have done.

Add an Alarm System

To avoid big issues, you can install an alarm. You should have one anyway, but this will keep most vandals from doing more than breaking a window. They will generally take off if the alarm starts blaring and this will alert the entire neighbourhood that your business is being attacked.

Install Security Grilles

While a security grille will not stop spray paint, it can help prevent random window smashing. The grille also provides the opportunity to slow vandals down so they can be captured on video or even caught by the police. In addition, most people will see a security grille and assume the protection is inside and out. This makes your business an unattractive target.
